Father Silouan of the Monastery of Essex, now a hermit in the heart of England

This legacy of the Holy Name and the revelation of ‘I AM’ in the ‘I AM’ sayings of St John’s Gospel, continues to inspire the work of Father Silouan and the life of the Monastery.  Ineffable and inexhaustible, it is beyond us as well as within us, calling us out of ourselves into the life of the Holy Trinity. This legacy is the focus and the ground of all that happens in the Monastery.  It also lies at the heart of Father Silouan’s four books of Gnomic Centuries, ‘Wisdom Songs,’ 2011 ‘Wisdom and Wonder,’ 2011, ‘Wisdom, Prophecy and Prayer,’ 2013, and ‘Wisdom, Glory and the Name.’ 2014.

Fr Sophrony imparted many spiritual treasures to his many grateful enquirers.  His profound insight into the Holy Name, ‘I AM’ inspired profound gratitude in many who knew him, and deepened their awareness of the mystery of first-personhood in the image of God.
