Geronda Joseph, Abbot of St. Nektarios Monastery - From a homily to visitors in the bookstore (On Sin, Abortion, Repentance and Confession)

Geronda Joseph (excerpt from a homily) on abortion and salvation...

…The holy Fathers teach that it is better for a woman to give childbirth, baptize the baby and afterwards kill it than to have an abortion. The Church’s penance for murder is less than the penance for abortion. Why is this? The Church teaches that an embryo is both body and soul from the moment of conception. When a woman aborts her child, she sends it into the next world unbaptized…if the child is baptized, then killed, it will be saved… Also, those who die unbaptized, even if they are saved, will be blind. They will feel the blessings of Paradise but will be unable to see it’s glory.
