Various apothegms (a short instructive saying) by St. Amphilochius Makris

- To remain faithful to Monasticism is considered to be martyrdom.
- Christ wants to pull the thorns out from you, because He is a gardner, and you want your peace.
- Christ is near us, even if we don't see Him... sometimes He slaps us out of love.
- You must rejoice. Jesus holds an artisan's chisel in His hand. He prepares you to become a statue of the heavenly palace.
- When you see a tired man (spiritually), don't burden him more, because his knees won't bear it.
- Only one thing grieves me, when they criticize the nuns. I don't care what they say about me.
- The person who shouts, does not have strength.
- He who is upset, does not think correctly. Be patient and you will be rewarded with a crown. I want you to be calm, so that we may meet. If you are tired, the wireless does not work
- We must have our eyes turned towards heaven. Then nothing will shake us.
- The Grace of God comes to you during the Divine Liturgy, if you have concentration, peace of mind, and think of nothing else.
- You must use that which God has given you. The heart of the woman is created to love more than man's. The man, no  matter how much he wants it, he will never be able to love as delicately as the woman. We see, if we pay attention, a coarseness in the love of the saints.
- You must know that some of the people who enter a Monastery are sent by God, while others are sent by the devil. While God sends them to strengthen the Monastery, the devil sends his own to disband it.
- Love with all your heart your Bridegroom Christ, and then all people will love you and take care of you.
- The temptations is anxious, distressed and creates external wars. He knows so many crafts.... he pulls the person in to doubt. For this reason we have many shipwrecks.
- I long for the rebirth of Monasticism, because for the Church, Monasticism is its Battalion of Evzones.
