The Cave of the Apostle St. Thomas in India.

The Cave of the Apostle St. Thomas in India.

The first to bring Christianity to India was St. Thomas the Apostle. The memory of him lives on this earth to this day.

In the cave on the Little Mount Chennai (Madras), located near Milaipur, the apostle Thomas found refuge from his pursuers. Here he lived and preached for two years. When the warriors discovered his shelter, the Lord performed a miracle: a crevice formed in the rock, through which the saint could escape.

He fled from the Little Mountain to the jungle of the Great Mountain. It was here, during the prayer of the apostle, one of the soldiers killed him, crept up from behind and pierced him with a spear. The tip of the spear is still kept in the museum of the Basilica of St. Thomas.

Inside the cave there is a boulder preserved, on which the fingerprint of the apostle with blood stains is visible. Locals believe that this imprint originated miraculously from the imposition of the arms of Thomas. And near there is a source of water, which, according to legend, the Lord created through the prayer of St. Thomas, so that the students in such a hot climate can stay with the apostle as long as possible.
