Today's Sermon in a Nutshell:
There is a story about a boy that loved collecting marbles. He lived next door to a little girl who had a lot of candy. One day she said to him: "I'll give you all of my candy if you'll give me all of your marbles."

The boy said he'd think about it. The next day he thought, "I really would like that candy, but why should I give her all my marbles?" So the boy hid a few of the marbles in his room and offered the rest to the little girl for her candy. That night, he couldn't get to sleep. He tossed and he turned and he turned and he tossed all night because he was so troubled.

And what do you think troubled him so much he couldn't sleep? What troubled him was the thought: "Did she really give me all of her candy?"

Greed and avarice take many forms and can turn anyone into the proverbial "Scrooge" as they hoard, and obsess over wealth and possession; never being satiated, always want more. Yet there is great liberation in knowing that everything belongs to God and we are only temporary keepers or "stewards" of these objects and valuables. There is also great liberation in trusting in God to "give us our daily bread" and to care for us. For Christ specifically told us to not be anxious about our life because our Heavenly Father knows what we need and, just like the birds of the air, He will care and provide for us all.
