Christ is Risen!
When the Apostle Philip comes upon an Ethiopian man reading from the prophecy of Isaiah, he asks him, “Do you understand what you are reading?” (Acts 8:30). The man answers back, “How can I, unless someone guides me.” At this, Philip goes on to interpret for him the Scriptures – for who else but someone who has received the Holy Spirit could fully divine the Word of God? This, therefore, is what the Orthodox Church continues to maintain to this very day. Orthodox Christians do not reinterpret, reinvent, redefine, or reshape Holy Scripture to suit our time, situation, or our needs, we simply keep, preserve, and follow Scripture as it has been handed down to us via the Apostles, Fathers, and Holy Tradition of the Church.
