“The very stone which the builders rejected...” St. Luke 20:18
Michelangelo, the famous Italian sculptor, painter, and poet, once stood before a great block of marble that had been rejected and cast aside by builders. While staring at this mammoth hunk of rock, a friend happened by who asked what he was looking at. “An angel,” was Michelangelo’s reply. Though it was still a solid mass, Michelangelo was able to envision what a mallet, chisel, and patient skill could do – even with a rejected piece of stone – and then proceeded to go on to carve out a true masterpiece. In similar fashion, God the Father patiently carved out the wonderful masterpiece of mankind’s salvation using another rejected stone: His Son, Jesus Christ!
