In every extreme situation, when I am facing a spiritual trial, I realize that I have no answer on how I should act.
However, the answer to my particular situation can always be found in the Scriptures. Despite this, I still don’t know the answer.
Why does this happen? Is it because I don’t read the Scriptures?
Certainly, I read it, but I don’t read it with profound discernment.
After each verse, you should go in depth, pause and ask questions:
What does this verse mean?
Why is it written in this way? For what purpose?
What does the Apostle or the Evangelist mean by these words?
What is he trying to say?
If we read the Scriptures without asking questions, we will remain on the surface and we’ll never be able to go in depth.
When a person tries to go in depth and discover the will of God in the Holy Scriptures, when a person tries to enter into a dialogue with God during prayer, he harmonizes his ability to feel and discern, and uses both equally in the spiritual life.
This kind of person develops spiritually in the right way.
Archpriest Theodore Gignadze
