Within the Church's hymnography and theological treaties the Virgin Mary is referred to by numerous [poetic] names and monikers. One that is most featured during the services of the Feat of the Annunciation is the "New Eve." This is because of the striking contrasts between Eve and Mary.

While Eve was disobedient, Mary was ogedient. Eve said "no" to God's Command, Mary says "yes" and accepts God's will. Eve eats the forbidden fruit and she is cast out of Paradise, as Mary accepts the Godly Fruit that grows in her womb which will lead us into God's Kingdom. Thus, just as Eve became an instrument of man's Fall from Grace, Mary is the instrument by which we will find the One Who will bestow Salvation!
