Today's Sermon in a Nutshell:
In his second letter to Timothy, Paul notes that Christians have received a "high calling" (1:9). This is reiterated in today's epistle lesson with the admonishment to "Walk worthy of the calling to which you were called" (Eph. 4:1).
For most of us, walking is easy. Yet to walk in the way of God's Law and Commandments is a whole other matter. To walk spiritually, morally, and ethically comes with great challenges in this sinful world. Thus, walking worthily is to move through life with meaning and purpose against the prevailing currents, practicing one's faith on the highest level while loving and doing good to the lowest common denominator, that is, those around us.
Therefore, our movements must meet and match God's expectations, and doing so shows the value or "worth" we place on this great calling. So, if we are going to talk the talk, we had also better walk the walk!
Fr. John
