What is the Church’s position on voting?
Christ called upon His followers to be apostolic and carry forth His gospel – enlightening all peoples. Therefore, it behooves us to vote for political leaders and civil authorities that will champion Christian ideals. Voting is an opportunity to promote, protect, and preserve a God-based government who will [hopefully] espouse moral, ethical, godly values. Thus, it is both our Christian and Civic duty to vote for and elect descent, right-minded people. The leaders we elect – or do nothing to remove – have a great influence on our world, country, churches, and society, as well as the moral and ethical stance of our nation, even our freedoms and rights.
Many will say that “one vote” doesn’t matter, but each vote does matter because each of us is of infinite worth and value to God. Therefore, your vote – your voice – is a declaration of importance as a Christian and a citizen.
Fr. John
