“Add to your faith virtue” (2 Peter 1:5).
Although the term “virtue” might seem vast, broad, and could be defined differently by different people, keep in mind that St. Peter was writing to a Greek-speaking, Hellenized world; one that was influenced by such major philosophers as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Therefore, to the Stoics, virtue was bordered by the pillars of wisdom, morality, courage, and moderation. Thus, we are encouraged to add these attributes to our faith to create a much firmer foundation for Christian growth.
