After the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed rallied in order to subjugate the Kingdom of Hungary.The Hungarians defeated the Ottomans at the Triumph of Nándorfehérvár on the 22nd of July 1456, and considerably delayed the Ottoman advance in Europe.
