Many Turks opposed the persecution of Greeks during the Greek Genocide and some risked their lives sheltering them. The Hadji-nuri family (pictured) sheltered the Hatzigeorgiou family for 18 days during the Kemalist massacres in the İzmit region of Asia Minor in 1920.
