The Orthodox Monastery of Saint Panteleimon in Nicomedia (today Izmit) was torn down by the Kemalists around 1920 during the GreekGenocide. Only the walls remain. Over 12,000 Greeks were massacred by the Kemalists during the Izmit Massacres of 1920-1921.
