In Paul’s letter to Titus, he lists the qualifications and standards expected of clergy. He goes on to elaborate that clergy must “hold fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict” (Titus 1:9).
In our day and age, we live in a society bound by “I’m OK; you’re OK,” and we celebrate the ideal that everyone can think and believe what they want. Indeed, this is true to some extent. However, when it comes to the Christian Faith, too many disagree with Christ’s teachings and wish to tweak or twist His teachings to fit their own agendas. And when they do, they change the Christian Faith. This is why we have so many Christian denominations, which are continuously multiplying because people keep disagreeing as to what the Church teaches. In essence, instead of humbly submitting to God’s Word, many seek to become their own god and create a religion just for them.
