When the chief priests and scribes tried to entrap Jesus in a debate regarding the payment of Roman taxes, Christ very cleverly called attention to Caesar’s likeness stamped upon the coin and said, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Luke 20:25). However, in doing so He also intimated that just as this minted Roman coin was imprinted with Caesar’s image, we are “imprinted” with God’s image – for man was created in the “image and likeness” of God. Therefore, we need to render ourselves and all of our being to our Creator.
