In his epistle to the Church of Ephesus, St. Paul calls upon the faithful to NOT be like the gentiles who are alienated from God through ignorance and “blindness of the heart” (Eph. 4:18). 

Blindness of the heart means “spiritual blindness,” a grievous condition experienced by those who do not believe in Jesus Christ or His gospel message; meaning, if one cannot “see” that Jesus Christ is the Son of God they cannot see God, either.

This is another reason why our Lord called Himself “the Light of the World,” so that no one would have to live and walk in darkness.
