“The LORD is my strength and my shield…” (Psalm 28:7)
Unlike human conflicts, spiritual battles against cosmic forces are not fought with fists and swords. St. Paul reaffirms this in his second letter to the Corinthains, “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the flesh or of this world” (10:4). Thus, our weaponry is of the “Divine” and has tremendous power because it comes from God. However, our greatest advantage comes from the protective armor we must put on and wear as a soldier in the Army of Christ:
Girding ourselves in TRUTH, wearing on the breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS, the GOSPELS as sandals to march in, the helmet of SALVATION, the shield of FAITH to ward off the fiery darts (sins and passions) of the Evil One, and the sword of the SPIRIT which is the Word of God – PRAYING always and being WATCHFUL.” (Ephesians 6:11-18)
This is the posture of a Christian and should be ours as we prepare to embark upon the upcoming battles we will encounter as we move towards the victory of Pascha.
Fr. John
