“Let your words be seasoned with salt.” (Col. 4:6)
Jesus used salt as a metaphor, calling upon His followers to be the “salt of the earth” (Matt:5:13). Paul reiterates this, reminding Christians that our speech must be “seasoned with salt.”
Salt is an important mineral; it preserves food, brings out flavor, soothes and heals, and is necessary for life: it balances fluids in the blood and is vital for nerve and muscle function. Thus, our words must give flavor to the gospel teachings, making them palatable and savory; preserving its message so that it can heal, sooth, and offer true meaning to life.
