“It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.” (Yogi Berra)
Entering a New Year should be a happy time, a joyous time…a time of both enthusiasm and optimism. A New Year symbolizes endless possibilities, the renewal of goals, resolutions for personal, physical, mental, and spiritual growth. Yet above all, a New Year should symbolize “hope.”
Sadly, this 2025 New Year started off on a sad, bitter, sorrow-filled note with the tragic events in New Orleans. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the victims and bereaved, who lost loved ones in this dastardly act, as well as to all those who suffered injury and hurt.
Although the future is unpredictable, uncertain and unknowable, we can, should, and must continue to pray for this world, that goodness will triumph over evil; entreating Christ, the “Prince of Peace,” for “peace on earth and good will amongst men” (Luke 2:14).
Let it be! Amen!
Fr. John
