This coming week marks the 50th anniversary of Woodstock: a moment in time when half a million young people converged upon Bethel, New York for a three-concert and were catalyzed in spirit through peace, love, and music (by the way, Bethel is also a town in the Holy Land and translates as “House of God” in Hebrew - apropos given the circumstances).

Though not through music, nor  perhaps with such vast numbers, Christ also brought together a great multitude in the wilderness to hear Him preach. There, too, the people dwelt in peace and love as they listened to Jesus’ teachings. And just like Woodstock, the people also shared with one another like a family – the family of God – the simple fare our Lord provided by multiplying fives loaves and two fish to feed the five thousand.
