“Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” (Luke 6:12)

“Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” (Luke 6:12)

Whenever we are confronted with, or need to make important decisions in life, it is best to follow out Lord’s example and pray about the matter, seeking God’s guidance. For whenever Jesus faced a critical decision or an important action, He spent extra time in prayer, as sited above.

That evening, Jesus knew He was about to make the important decision as to which twelve apostles He should choose from amongst all His followers; and believe me, this decision was not like which of the 31 flavors to pick from Baskin & Robbins. This decision would have long-lasting repercussions for all of eternity and impact man’s quest for salvation forever. Thus, Christ needed to choose worthy candidates from a whole group of broken, sinful individuals, who could still stand up to and face ridicule, persecution…and even the threat of death.

Fr. John
