“moved Him”
Whenever Jesus saw someone distressed, diseased, destitute, or in despair, it “moved Him” to the very depths of His heart and soul. He sympathized with their plight. This show-cased the epitome of His love for us and caused our Lord to get involved and do something which, more-often-than-not, resulted in a miracle, such as in today’s gospel lesson when He raised the widow’s son in Nain. Thus, compassion became the catalyst to many of His good works, simply because He saw a need and was moved to act.
We, too, must follow Jesus’ example and be moved into action. It begins by feeling empathy to someone’s situation and doing something to help or alleviate their suffering. Yet we cannot accomplish this without first acquiring and maintaining a true, Christ-like love for one another.
Therefore, if you truly wish to make a difference in the world or bring about a change, you must follow the need, act in the name of love, and be the change!
Fr. John
