Once, his old mother and sisters came to see Father Gabriel in the cell of Samtavro Monastery, that was the last year of the life of Father Gabriel, and he, seriously ill, was lying in bed. After questioning and a short conversation, the mother began to cry and said:
- What did you see in this life, Gabriel, except for suffering and torment? Even you had no childhood, nothing at all. It was impossible to listen and take care of yourself, because you too are a man!
Seeing tears in the eyes of his mother, Father Gabriel was very upset. He was upset on the one hand, because his own mother again did not understand him and did not learn that he, somehow unusually wounded by the love of Christ, could not live differently, and, on the other hand, it was a mother, co-owner of the hard life of her son, Father Gabriel, and her tears came from deep pain. Father Gabriel was silent for a bit, and then gently said:
- I could not live any other way.
