“Mercy triumphs over judgment.” (James 2:13)
“Mercy triumphs over judgment.” (James 2:13)
Much like a metaphysical game of “Rock, Paper,
Scissors,” mercy always triumphs over judgement because mercy is based upon
love – God’s love; while judgement is based simply upon the Law. Therefore,
judgement is cold and harsh, it takes nothing else into consideration. In
judging, a thing is either right or wrong, black or white, pro or con, for or
against. Yet mercy – loving mercy, by virtue of its meaning, covers a multitude
of sin (1st Peter 4:8) just as snow covers the ground making it pure and white.
Fr. John
