A disabled woman, from the age of
nine, shackled with paralysis, growing from a child, weighing only 25 kg
(before her sleep- 16!💣), unable to move, suffering from a whole "bouquet" of diseases
of the internal organs, on the ruins of a tub dispensary abandoned in the
forest created a convent, gained the authority of a wise abbess, organizer,
teacher, spiritually gifted.
Mother Raphaela was once Nina
Chernetska. At the age of nine, she contracted measles. Improper treatment only
worsened the already poor health of the girl. Little Nina was paralyzed and
left disabled for life.
Her father Eustathius died of grief.
Her mother Elena continued to care for her daughter with love. They were very
poor, relying on the mercy of God✝️.
At the age of twenty-four, Nina accepted
monasticism at thirty-five she was
tonsured into monasticism with the name of Seraphima. Her example was followed
by her mother, who became nun with the name Magdalene.
After the death of her mother, the
daughter remained in the care of the spiritual sisters. The women who
surrounded Mother Seraphima accepted monasticism and stayed in her house.
In 1998, the mother became mortally ill and,
with the blessing of His Eminence Bishop Gurias, quickly tonsured into a great
schema with the name of Raphaela. And a miracle happened – the mother survived
!
For 50 years she carried a heavy
cross of diseases and sorrows, having managed not only to survive, but to live
actively and fully, and at the end of her earthly path to create in the
picturesque forest near Zhytomyr amazing beauty and grace of the monastery.
Its crown was the 49-meter cathedral
built under the leadership of Mother Raphaela in the name of Anastasia
Romanyny, the patroness of Zhytomyr, and St. Seraphim of Sarov ✝️– perhaps one of the
largest in scale of the newly erected in Ukraine.
Doctors of the Kiev hospital where the schema nun Raphaela spent the last
days of her earthly life, were amazed: how could this soul be kept in a
bloodless tiny organism all these years, because the body of the mother,
immobilized from the age of nine, weighed 16 kgs!!
Little did they know, that in front
of them was not a helpless dying woman, but an ascetic full of the grace of the
Holy Spirit, a warrior of Christ✝️.
