(Archbishop Damianos greeted by Bedouin children on Easter morning.
On the occasion
of the Feast of Saints Kosmas and Damianos on November 1st, the Friends of
Mount Sinai Monastery join together in wishing a blessed and joyous feast day
to His Eminence Archbishop Damianos of Sinai.
Surpassing the
archetype of the spiritual leader through myriad responsibilities to the
surrounding Bedouin community, His Eminence simultaneously fulfills duties on
the world stage as diplomat, conserver of a world heritage site and it’s vast
spiritual and cultural treasures, and defender of the Monastery’s prerogatives
as the oldest continuously-functioning monastery in the world.
During more
than four decades as Archbishop of Sinai and Abbot of St. Catherine’s, His
Eminence has enjoyed the highest esteem of heads of state and the leaders of different
spiritual traditions for the wisdom and good-will with which he achieves
resolution of the many intersecting claims on Mount Sinai’s ancient legacy. Led
by his unbounded self-sacrifice, the Sinai Monastery continues to stand at the
crossroads of the world’s three monotheistic traditions as a light on the past,
and guide to holiness toward the better future of a world starved for hope.
Of course, the
Archbishop is also a beloved spiritual leader for the Monastery and the
multitudes who have been blessed to make his acquaintance during pilgrimages
there or during his travels abroad.
Your Eminence,
Many and blessed years!! May we have your blessing!
