Bring in the Bees!
Bring in the
Bees!
During their
time, the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon were considered to be the wisest
persons in the world. When the Queen of Sheba came to meet King Solomon, she
did so with a test to "show him up." An apocryphal story say that she
had her greatest artists create and paint artificial flowers, while her royal
gardeners brought real flowers of the same variety. She placed them in equal
number vases all around Solomon's thrown room and asked the King to distinguish
as to which were real and which were false, but with the conditions that he
could not get up and touch or smell them.
Solomon
realized his reputation was at stake and the whole situation looked hopeless.
Yet before the Queen could enjoy her victory, King Solomon got a brilliant idea.
He gave an order to his servants to bring in the bees from the royal apiary.
When the bee keepers brought in the hives, the king ordered that they be opened
and, as the bees naturally flew out and migrated towards the real flowers, all
King Solomon had to do was simply point each one out!
Seeing that
he had bested her, the Queen of Sheba had to admit that King Solomon was wiser
than she.
Each day we
are asked to decide what, are the real and valuable things in life. We are also
given the task of detecting that which is false and artificial. We must be wise
like King Solomon and figure out how to distinguish good from bad, right from
wrong, falsehood from truth. And if necessary, never be ashamed to ask for help
- even from the lowliest source!
