“God shows no partiality.” (Acts 10:34)
Christ is Risen!
“God shows no partiality.” (Acts 10:34)
Partiality is favoritism or bias. To show partiality is to give preference to one person over others with equal claims. It is similar to discrimination and may be based upon conditions such as social standing, class, wealth, ethnicity, religious views, etc.
Holy Scripture is quite clear that partiality or favoritism is incongruent with God’s character and, accordingly, is a perversion of how He created us to be (James 2:1). Christ calls upon us to love one another as God loves us. Thus, favoritism and partiality are not of God, but a result of our fallen nature. Therefore, we must stop forming judgments based upon selfish, personal criteria rather than seeing others as God sees them: “neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
Fr. John
