“Wisdom!” and “Let us attend!”
Within the scripture we hear a lot about hearing: “He who hears you hears me;” “He who has ears to hear, let him hear;” “They have ears, but do not hear;” etc. Yet there is a vast difference hearing and “listening.” Thus, when our Lord mentions ears and hearing, it is akin to saying, “listen up” or “pay close attention,” because this is important.
We use the same verbiage during our services as the priest or deacons intones, “Wisdom!” and “Let us attend!” during crucial or important moments so we can "listen with our heart" as opposed to simply our ears.
Fr. John
