We live in an era of constant and rapid change. Art, music, fashions, technology, architecture, car designs are always in a state of flux. Fads come and go. Sometimes we even change for its own sake! That is why it is so important for Orthodox Christians to maintain and hang on to the strong roots of our liturgical tradition; not only to remain loyal to the past, but to stay connected to the living continuity of the Ancient Church. Our worship services, which were ordained by God, mirrors for us that continuous, “eternal liturgy” that occurs in Heaven. Thus, the permanence of the Divine Liturgy (as it was so brilliantly and lovingly designed by God), represents that timelessness and changelessness which transcends earthly praise and connects it to the eternal ongoing worship in God’s Kingdom!
