Archpriest Theodore GignadzeSegment from a sermon - March 6, 2022
When pride is the dominant force within a person, he has no ability to forgive.
The more one has an inadequate perception of himself (the more one is in delusion),
the more one thinks that he has virtues within himself that are of his own making, not something granted by God, but rather something that is his own,
the more he believes that he is good and virtuous, the more he loses the ability to forgive.
When pride prevails in a person, he begins to think in the following way:
“I am good and virtuous, why aren’t you? I am behaving properly, why are you not?”
This will continue to be the case… it will be impossible for a person to be freed from this until he humbles himself to a great degree.
It’s impossible for a person not to be judgmental because:
“If I am so good and virtuous, why are you so evil?
If I am able to live a certain way, why aren’t you able to do the same?
I would have never acted in that manner. Why did you?”
It’s impossible to be freed from this kind of thinking because this is what a person actually feels and believes.
In this case, it’s impossible for a person not to judge another human being.
The lack of humility leads to a deficit of grace in a person.
It causes God not to be within us and takes away a person’s ability to be merciful, which is something that was incredibly shown to us by the Incarnate God.
