“Jesus arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.” (Mark 4:39)
When our Lord rebuked the storm saying, “Peace, be still,” He basically told it to “calm down,” similar to a teacher telling a classroom of unruly students to settle down and be quiet. The disciples were awestruck as the wind and waves actually obeyed! This authority over creation immediately gave a clue as to who Jesus really was: the long, hoped-for Messiah.
Fr. John
