Never Despair — Trust in God’s Mercy.

Never Despair — Trust in God’s Mercy

“Keep only one thing in mind: Never fall into despair.

Even if a person stumbles and sins ten thousand times in a single day, it is not right before God to despair.

On the contrary, one must continue to hope, rise again, and prepare for the spiritual struggle, until the grace of God comes and sets him free.”

— Elder Ephraim of Arizona (Elder Ephraim the Athonite) ☦️

No matter how many times we fall, we must never lose hope in the mercy of God. The spiritual life is not about never stumbling, but about continually rising through repentance, humility, prayer, and trust in Christ. God’s mercy is greater than our sins, and His grace never abandons those who sincerely turn toward Him.

Do not complicate your life.

"Do not complicate your life—it is already wisely ordered. Trust in God and do not be afraid. What is meant for you will come; what is not meant for you will pass you by. Live with peace in your heart, not fear in your thoughts. And you will see—everything will turn out better than you could ever imagine."

Saint Elijah of Optina (Elder Hilarion)

"No matter how much a person sins, no matter how much he is a complete idiot, the Lord will not love him less. Our Lord loves us fully, each of us individually. And each one with an extraordinary love, the only kind the Lord can love."

Voluntarily lost in the Paradise of the Mountain of Saints.

Wandering in caves and on mountains.

"Mount Athos demands strong legs," "Walking—that is what the Mountain is all about"—I hear this time and again. And I agree. To share in the way of the ancients, at least in the act of moving about, if not in all else. To breathe in the forest’s breath and have every question vanish regarding why this specific geographical place was chosen for the creation and flourishing of the monastic commonwealth. To crush dry leaves beneath your soles and feel the urge to apologize even to them for disturbing their peace with your superfluous presence. To drink water from springs and holy wells, sensing the salty aftertaste of the sweat of ascetics that has dripped there for centuries. To meet a fellow human on your path and exchange the Resurrection greeting. To sit upon a rock that might well shelter sanctified relics beneath it. And sweetest of all: to know that this is for a short while—a very short while. To know that you will depart for your place of ministry thousands of kilometers away. This—the Lord knows how—heightens the sweetness of the place. So much so, in fact, that it leaves you insatiable for it all.  Photograph:

Eternity!!!!

Eternity

If we fill ourselves with good thoughts and noble aspirations, we shall find them in eternity. Those thoughts that embody goodness here grant us peace in eternity. But if we occupy ourselves with other thoughts—hellish ones, filled with envy and malice—then, upon passing into eternity, we shall see that we squandered the time during which we could have mended our lives, yet failed to do so. Then, the pangs of conscience over lost time will begin. Who, then, shall deliver us from this in eternity?

Only God can deliver man from this. Or perhaps someone on earth might remember us and pray to the Lord to free us from those mental shackles we forged here on earth—shackles we failed to cast off while there was still time. Peace and joy are the greatest riches, both of this world and of the next.

Archimandrite Thaddeus of Vitovnica

“I am willing…” (Luke 5:13).

“I am willing…” (Luke 5:13)

When our Lord said, “I am willing,” He revealed His readiness to love, act, heal, and forgive, but it also demonstrated the immediacy of His commitment. However, just like in Pickleball or Tennis, there is no “game” unless there is interaction; you must return the ball served to you.

In other words, God is willing to love you, but are you willing to love Him and be loved?

God is willing to forgive your sins, but are you willing to repent?

God is willing to
lead you, but are you willing to follow?

God is willing to answer your prayers, but are willing to pray?

God is willing to reveal

through Holy Scripture, but are you willing to read?

God is willing to bless us, but are you willing to receive His blessing…or even want it?

In a sense, Christ is more than willing to serve,

but the ball is in your court.

“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” (Eph. 4:29)

“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” (Eph. 4:29)

It is the responsibility of every Christian to promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ; first by living it, and then by teaching it. This is what it means to be apostolic.

A New Athonite Icon Finds a Spiritual Home in Korea.

A New Athonite Icon Finds a Spiritual Home in Korea.A meaningful new spiritual bond between Mount Athos and the Orthodox faithful of Korea is being established through the donation and installation of a newly created holy icon from Bourazeri, Mount Athos, to the Orthodox Metropolis of Korea.
The icon, carrying the distinctive spiritual and iconographic tradition of the Holy Mountain, is much more than a work of sacred art. It represents a living expression of prayer, faith and centuries-old Athonite monastic tradition, now finding a permanent home thousands of kilometres away in Korea.
Its donation to the Metropolis of Korea has a particularly symbolic significance. Mount Athos has, for more than a millennium, served as one of the great spiritual centres of Orthodox Christianity, while the Orthodox Church in Korea represents a vibrant presence of the same faith in East Asia. The arrival and enshrinement of an Athonite icon therefore creates a tangible spiritual bridge between the Holy Mountain and the Korean Peninsula.
For the faithful who will pray before it, the icon will constitute a permanent reminder that Orthodox Christianity transcends geography, language and national borders. The spiritual heritage cultivated in the monasteries and cells of Mount Athos can now speak directly to Orthodox Christians, visitors and friends of the Church in Seoul, bringing an authentic element of Athonite spirituality into the life of the Korean Metropolis.
The initiative also carries a broader significance for the relationship between Greece and the Republic of Korea. At a time when the two countries continue to strengthen their ties in numerous fields, this gesture adds another, profoundly human dimension: one rooted in spirituality, cultural heritage and mutual understanding.
The formal installation of the icon at the Metropolis of Korea can therefore become an occasion not only of ecclesiastical importance, but also of friendship and encounter — bringing together representatives of the Orthodox Church, Mount Athos, the Greek community, Korean faithful and friends of Greece.
From Bourazeri and the quiet landscape of Mount Athos to the heart of Seoul, the journey of this icon is itself a powerful symbol: a centuries-old spiritual tradition continuing its journey into new lands, creating new bonds and carrying with it a message of faith, peace and hope.

Without place and time!!!!Εκτός τόπου και χρόνου!!!

The path for all of us is the same: we will all leave this life.

"The path for all of us is the same: we will all leave this life. Yesterday, I, a twenty-year-old, was running down Gorky Street, and tomorrow I might be dying. No metaphors. Am I afraid? Yes, I am. It's an unprecedented situation. But it's also very interesting. There's God, there's eternity. I'm not ready. There's so much negativity. We were sitting with Vanya Okhlobystin on the set of the film "Tsar," getting our makeup done and talking about what we had read and heard about eternal life. The makeup artist said, "Oh, you guys are so funny." I told him, "Just wait until we stand before the Creator; you'll be laughing uncontrollably." Because with our consciences and our lives as they are, we'll have to look God in the eye, the God who gave his life for us on the cross...

Don't be fooled into thinking that after death, only dust will remain of us. All the great scientists are believers. All my doctor friends, who deal with life and death, believe.

There are thousands of testimonies about clinical death that prove there is no end. Einstein didn't doubt the existence of God, nor did Pushkin, Lomonosov, or Mendeleev. And some seventeen-year-old girl says, "I'm not sure your God exists..." But first, you should read, study the issue, and then you can say that. But she doesn't do that; she just talks. It's like getting on the subway, seeing the diagram – a circle with colorful dots. You wave your hand and say, "Oh, it's nothing, I'll just go on my own." And you'll end up riding the Circle Line for the rest of your life."

Petr Mamonov

We spent 10 days on Mount Athos. Peter Mamonov returned from there a changed man.

We spent 10 days on Mount Athos. Peter Mamonov returned from there a changed man. At first, he would even run to the sea between services and smoke there. But then, he quit instantly.

"I can't," he said. "I press my lips against the holy relics, I receive Communion... and then I put that filth in my mouth!" And just like that, he stopped smoking.

Later, when his friends would sometimes jokingly remind him:
"You went to Mount Athos, and you quit smoking there..."

He would snap back:
"People don't go to Mount Athos to quit smoking!"

He was truly concerned with the essence of things, and everything else that happened in his life was a consequence of that.

It was the same with drinking: his struggle was precisely about whether his soul could choose the better path: to be with God, rather than wallowing in vomit. He would stand in the church, walking towards Communion, and then the devil would twist him so much that he could end up drinking. There were even some truly terrible incidents. And then he would kneel, simply begging for forgiveness, his whole body trembling:
"Lord, help me! I don't want to! I can't!"

Being an Orthodox Christian is not about being "satisfied" with a church, or being "comfortable" with a church.

Being an Orthodox Christian is not about being "satisfied" with a church, or being "comfortable" with a church. Being an Orthodox Christian is submitting one's will to the infallible teachings of the Church which, because the Church is literally and figuratively the Body of Christ, are the truth and teachings of Jesus Himself. When you become joined to Christ through His Most Holy Body and Blood, you cannot help but find the salvation that you are seeking. Therefore, ask not what your church can do for you, but what you can do and bring to the Altar of God as a sacrifice for His Holy Church; all the while enhancing the true Christian experience and witness for those with whom you come in contact with.

Today’s Sermon in a Nutshell:

Today’s Sermon in a Nutshell:

Imagine receiving an invitation to a king’s banquet, how excited you would feel at having been considered, personally chosen; handpicked to attend such a special event. Now imagine having the audacity to look the king in the face and say “No,” refusing outright to attend the celebration; and worse yet, making light of it. Therefore, the king’s decision to punish those who refuse to attend by having them cast out into the outer darkness is warranted and makes the point of the parable quite clear: Accept the invitation and participate or suffer the consequences of your choice. For either you attend the banquet and feast on Christ, or you don’t and the devil feasts on you!

Fr. John

Jesus died on the cross at the age of 33. The human spine has 33 vertebrae.

Jesus died on the cross at the age of 33. The human spine has 33 vertebrae. The same structure that supports our body has the same number of years that His sacred feet have walked the Earth.

We have 12 ribs on each side. 12 disciples. 12 tribes of Israel. God has engraved His plan in our bones. He has written Heaven in our very anatomy.

The vagus nerve starts in the brain and goes down to the heart and intestines. It calms the storms in the body. It looks like a cross. This is the source of power that runs through our being. Every time your body heals, when your heart is calmed in prayer, when peace appears where it shouldn't... He is there.

Jesus rose on the third day. I read that when you fast for three days, the body begins to regenerate.  Old cells die. New cells are born. Healing begins. The body is resurrected. It is not a coincidence. It is a pattern.

And it continues.

Your heart has an electrical rhythm. Your brain lights up when you pray, like the fireworks in Sydney on New Year's Eve. Tears of joy have a different chemical composition than tears of pain or crying. Blood speaks. Bones carry memory. The body worships, even if you don't realize it.

We are made terribly beautiful. We are living prophecy. Walking temples. Dust and divinity in one.

God didn't just create you. He engraved His image in you.

You don't have to search far for Him.

You just have to look within.

He knows you and loved you before your first heartbeat...

Father John Bandilita

(From the book of Fr. Eusebius Vittis "THE MERCY OF THE HEART")

I am of the opinion that, according to the opinion of Athanasius the Great, the interpreter of the book of Psalms, that within these words of the holy book, the entire life of men has been measured and contained, and the dispositions of the soul and the movements of their thoughts and ideas, and that nothing more than these is found in human life. That is, whether there is a need for repentance and confession, or some sorrow or temptation has occurred, or someone has been persecuted or escaped from some imposition, or sorrow has overtaken him, or he sees himself progressing and the enemy being rendered useless, or he wants to praise and thank the Lord, for all this he is taught by the Psalms.  Let him therefore choose what is said to them for each case mentioned and say them, offering them to the Lord as if they had been written for himself, forming corresponding feelings within himself.

With these words, as the apostle Paul said, "the saints conquered kingdoms, performed works of virtue, achieved the fulfillment of God's promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched and rendered powerless the power of fire, escaped the danger of slaughter, were healed of diseases, proved themselves strong in wars, put foreign armies to flight, and took back wives from the dead who had risen (Heb. 11:33-35).

So whoever now speaks these words, let him have the conviction that through the Psalms God will quickly hear the supplications of those who pray.

"Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith." (2nd Cor. 13:5)

"Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith." (2nd Cor. 13:5)

When we think about ourselves, we normally assume that we are good and decent; as someone living a righteous and just life. However, one element of sin is that it confuses and distorts how we view ourselves, causing us to believe we are better than we are. Therefore, St. Paul asks us to really "examine ourselves" to consider our life and actions to discern and find evidence of the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, peace, forbearance, gentle, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23).
