Q: What do you say to someone who claims to be spiritual, but not religious?

A: People who say "I'm not religious, but I'm spiritual," are merely masking the fact that they do not wish to invest in a doctrine, theology, tradition, scripture, or submit to any authority whatsoever. Claiming to be spiritual is merely their way of creating a religion of their own; one which plays by their rules and never forces them to actually answer to anyone for anything. In essence, it's just an easy way out.
