October
You immerse us in glorious autumnal colors
Surround us in golden, russet hues
Your smell is unique and longed for
A comforting perfume of freshness and decay
Bountiful nuts, mushrooms, and gourds
Last tastes of crisp, tart apples from low-hanging boughs
Wind weaving cleverly through branches, waving fields
The ground crackling and crunching underfoot
The work of raking into piles multicolored plumes
Only to jump, lay, and daydream in
Yet amidst the senses’ awareness, a portent that
Every falling leaf is a whisper to the living
