In Genesis 27:1-41,
In Genesis 27:1-41, Jacob steals his brother’s birthright through an elaborate ruse by convincing their father, Isaac, that he is his twin brother Esau. Yet why was a father’s blessing so highly valued in the Old Testament?
Genesis places great emphasis upon a father’s blessing to his sons – especially to the first born. Such a blessing was a great honor, and losing this blessing was tantamount to a curse. This is because a father’s final blessing proceeding death included words of advice and encouragement, practical details regarding each son’s inheritance, and words concerning the future leadership of the family.
