Saint Sophrony says that every man who wants to receive the Spirit will come to a point in his life when he must decide: ‘Either God or me. Either the will of God or my life.’ If he chooses God over his life, he will make the leap into eternity.
The Apostle Paul says that it is through foolishness that we find wisdom. Unless we become foolish, we cannot become wise. And we become foolish when we renounce our logic and simply let ourselves be carried away by the love of God. True obedience is to use our judgment, our inspiration, to justify the word we receive from our Elder more than he would have justified it himself. In this way, we learn to justify God and His providence in all things.
