“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:26)

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”  (James 2:26)

In recent years, many Protestants have taken to debate the essence of the above quote regarding “faith vs. works,” however there really shouldn’t be a debate at all because faith and works are not separate issues but integral aspects of a whole Christian Faith. Faith is the cause of our belief while works are the evidence of it.

Faith and works are like the two oars needed to row a boat and give it movement, and they must work in unison for us to make any forward progress. If these two elements do not work in tandem, we're just spinning around in circles getting nowhere.

Fr. John
