The Sanhedrin !!!!!

The Sanhedrin was the governing Jewish council, kind of like the supreme court or senate of ancient Israel. It was comprised of 70 [righteous] men and the elected High Priest. They would meet regularly to discuss and make decisions; and much like our own modern-day government, the Sanhedrin’s membership was comprised of two major opposing parties: the Sadducees and the Pharisees.

Sadducees were generally wealthy, worldly, and for all practical purposes a “political party” that was more concerned with keeping peace and getting along their Roman rulers. Pharisees on the other hand disdained their pagan, domineering overlords. However, while the Sadducees held the majority of the seats in the Sanhedrin, the Pharisees wielded more power because of their perceived piety, reverence, and strict adherence of the Law.
