Parables are still perhaps one of the most effective means of teaching. This is because they are designed to reveal an important truth or moral, but without a lengthy discourse. Its short, concise, story-form makes it memorable to the listener. And, one of the keys to a good parable is the use of contrasts which often elicited an unexpected “shock and awe” effect upon the listener.
Fr. John
