Emperor Nikephoros Phokas II

Emperor Nikephoros Phokas II was one of the most pious Emperors and talented generals in the history of the empire. He scored so many victories against the Muslims he gained the epithet  "Pale death of the Saracens". He also helped to create the monastic community on mount Athos where he is celebrated as a saint.
