“For godly sorrow produces repentance” (2nd Cor. 2:10)
“For godly sorrow produces repentance” (2nd Cor. 2:10)
All of us have experienced sadness and grief, but sorrow is more akin to feeling remorse for one’s actions. Thus, godly sorrow results from a heart-felt conviction that we have in some way offended or sinned against God: disobeyed His Law, broken His Commandments, or forsaken His love in our own selfish quest towards pleasure. Such a feeling produces tears of repentance and a burning conviction and a resolve that we return to God and “cease to do evil, and learn to do good” (Isaiah 1:16).
Fr. John
