Reciting psalms from the St. Theophan the Recluse with reflection during a journey was a rule of the first great Fathers Anthony and Pachomius. They required anyone who became one of their disciples to memorize without fail several psalms by heart. Whoever could not read learned to read after he had memorized the psalms by listening to someone else recite. After learning a few psalms, he had to recite them while sitting at work and especially when going somewhere. Do this, if you will, in imitation of the ancient monks.
