"...but God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean." (Acts 10:28)
There once was a clever priest who asked a group of children how they could tell when the darkness of night had ended and light of day began.
Some of the children thought the correct answer might be the moment when a sliver of the sun peaked over the horizon. Others deduced that it actually occurred just prior to the sunrise - at a moment in time when you could finally distinguish shapes amidst the blackness of night. Still others aimed at a time between those two answers. In the end the priest had to inform the children that all of their answers were incorrect.
"Then when is it?" they all shouted. "When exactly can we tell when the darkness of night has ended and light of day has begun"?
The priest replied, "It occurs at the moment you can look upon the face of any individual, man or woman, and see that they indeed are your brother or sister in Christ. For if we can not look upon them and see the living image and icon of God, we are obviously still living within the darkness of night."
Fr. John
