WHY ARE WE SILENT AFTER THE LITURGY?
WHY ARE WE SILENT AFTER THE LITURGY?
One day two pilgrims, traveling on Mount Athos, walked for a day, a second day, a third day... And suddenly on the third day one pilgrim asked the other, "Listen, why are we always silent? It's the third day we've been walking and not saying anything." And he says, "We are not silent..."
When the Divine Liturgy has taken place, not just as a recitation and chanting of the service, but when it has taken place as a prayer, as a meeting with God, then one does not want to say anything: no sermons, no teachings. One wants to take a piece of the silence from the liturgy with him to his cell. The angelic world is silent before God. Because it is in a state that is greater than words.
From the book "To the Light" by Fr. Sergius Baranov
