When our Lord called and chose His Twelve Disciples, they were very ordinary people. These men were not learned, did not come from great social backgrounds, and were, to say the least, unimpressive individuals. Still, Jesus saw in each of them great potential. Thus, He picked them and sent them out to preach His gospel, trusting in their God-given abilities.
We, too, are called by God, but “called to be sent:” to go forth and proclaim what we believe. And we don’t need any special equipment to perform this missionary duty, for we are well-equipped for the task at hand by the grace of God.
You might feel unworthy or inadequate to be a successor to the apostles, but they were not perfect or qualified either. The only thing that matters is that Christ believes in you and will empower you to do the same.
Fr. John
