Another interesting portion in the Christmas Carol comes ...............
Another interesting portion in the Christmas Carol comes at the end of Jacob Marley’s ghostly visit when, after foretelling that three spirits will visit Scrooge, Marley beckons Ebenezer to come to the window. As he does, Scrooge begins to hear plaintive moaning. Looking out the window he sees the air filled with restless, wandering phantoms wailing with regret because they have “lost the power to do good works.” This is a stern reminder that we should perform all the good works we can while we still have the chance. As someone so aptly wrote, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, for as long as you can.”
Fr. John
