Toll-houses, what is it? They are not allegorical, the Holy Fathers wrote much on it. The images, that the soul sees, like metaphor of money, are metaphorical, but it's biblical, Jesus Christ Himself did use that metaphor in that very context (Lk 12:54). St John Chrysostom taught that the Scripture in Lk: 12 17-20 speaks about toll-houses. This pillar of theology is not alone in this, actually Saint of the Early Church taught about toll-houses even prior to Chrysostom. Martyr Justin the Philosopher spoke about them as early as in 2nd century, and it's the apostolic time.
